Interested in Commissioning your own original encaustic art worK?

Encaustics are often conceptual, using forms, color, landscapes, or photos–sometimes with a softer, more dreamlike style and other times the focus is on capturing a moment or a scene. Realism is not the goal. The final painting is about the feeling and inspiration and a true partnership between the artist and the client.

Step 1: Direction

I have colors, styles, marks, materials, and themes I lean toward (nature and warm colors with pops of cool accents) and I want to infuse your preferences and vision. The commission will combine your ideas with my aesthetic. Some clients provide colors, size, or a mood, while others might have a specific photo, object, or memory that serves as inspiration. This is a beautiful process and fun to create something truly authentic to YOU.

Step 2: Samples

You will take a photo of the space you’d like the painting in and send it to me along with measurements, and any color preferences or surrounding furniture/decor. This allows me to create a presentation to scale and helps solidify details, so we both feel confident about the direction. I then create small samples (2-3) based on our conversations. These will not always be a true representation since the medium and scale are so different but will provide a guidepost. (You will be able to keep these sample artworks.)

Step 3: Agreement and Deposit

Once size, concept, and colors are chosen, pricing will be provided and agreed upon (this will include a shipping estimate if needed). A 50% deposit is required to start the painting.

Step 4: Create Painting

Once a deposit is received, the process begins! Depending on the season and scope, the full process may take anywhere from 2-4 weeks. Along the way, I will send process shots (if desired), and once completed, photographs and video of the painting for final approval (for non-locals).

The paintings are thoroughly wrapped and secured if shipping is required. I will check in on delivery to make sure everything arrived, and see that you are pleased with the final outcome. Ideally, I would love it if you would photograph the installed art so I can see it in its final setting! When posting to social media please feel free to tag @bmbobbitt on Instagram.

Step 5: caring for your Painting

Encaustics are durable but it’s made from beeswax so direct sunlight and extremely hot or cold environments are not recommended. Encaustic art may form what is known as “bloom” on its surface over the course of several months or years after its creation, which is a naturally occurring hazy residue. It can also collect dust. Both can be easily buffed using a lint-free cloth, which I’m happy to provide.
